The starter fits my engine perfectly, the only thing I did to insure good fit was to removed the old starter and count the number of splines on the gear to insure proper fit. I then found this starter which actually stated how many splines the gear had. My snow blower is an ancient craftsman the has a newer engine and if spins the engine fast enough for a quick start. Please note that this starter has the cover for the starter gear, some do not.
